1. WirtschaftsWoche: University of Mannheim Ranked Number 1 in Germany for Business Administration/Management and Economics
According to employers, the University of Mannheim offers by far the best management education in Germany. In an annual survey of more than 500 HR executives conducted by the renowned business magazine WirtschaftsWoche (Handelsblatt Publishing Group), the University of Mannheim's Business School has taken the number one position for the tenth time in a row in the area of Business Administration/Management. Mannheim was also voted the best university for Economics. The WirtschaftsWoche ranking puts a strong focus on the practical relevance of the education.

In addition, Mannheim is one of the most successful German Universities in the current CHE University Ranking. In the areas of Business Administration, Economics, Political Science and Sociology, Mannheim received the best national rating. The CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of universities and universities of applied sciences in Germany. It also covers higher education institutions in Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In addition to facts about studying, teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also includes more than 250,000 student evaluations of the study conditions at their institution.

2. Third MBS HR Roundtable, June 9, 2011
On June 9, 2011, the next MBS HR Roundtable will take place in Mannheim. Focusing on the concept of mixed leadership, the event will include a master class on this topic with Andrew Kakabadse, PhD, Professor of International Management Development at Cranfield School of Management and long-time member of the MBS adjunct faculty.

The biannual professional panel serves as a regular interaction platform between high-profile corporate HR decision-makers and Mannheim Business School, allowing companies to profit from the direct exchange with Germany’s leading business school and to gain valuable insights into recent developments in the area of executive education.

1. Staff News: New Program Director Executive Education
Mannheim Business School extends a warm welcome to Daphné Schalbetter who has joined the MBS Team as Program Director Executive Education as of March 2011. Having worked, among others, for Capgemini and Arthur D. Little, Schalbetter can look back on more than a decade of management consultancy experience. With a specialization in human resources and change management consulting, she is ideally suited to ensure that the MBS Executive Education portfolio matches the needs and expectations of our partner businesses and to further enhance our offer. Schalbetter succeeds Rahel Reichmann, who joined Mannheim Business School in 2007 and played a central role in the initial shaping of the area’s strategy and content.

2. Program Kick-off ESSEC & MANNHEIM Weekend Executive MBA Class of 2012
Mannheim Business School welcomes the 43 members of the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Weekend Executive MBA Class of 2012 who started their program in Mannheim at the beginning of April. The program attracts a still increasing number of highly qualified and experienced individuals. Since its inception in 2006, enrollment has more than doubled, making the program an on-going success story. Participants of the current class come from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, 16 % of whom hold a PhD/Doctoral degree.

Recruitment for the next ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA class (modular format), which will start in October of 2011, has already started. As places are limited, our early bird offer extends until June, 30th only. If you have successfully completed the admissions process by the end of June you will profit from a reduction of tuition fee by 2,500€.

In order to get a comprehensive insight into our ESSEC & MANNHEIM EMBA program as well as our new MANNHEIM & TONGJI EMBA, we invite you to visit our Open Day on Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 10.30 am to 7 pm. 3. First MANNHEIM & TONGJI Module in Mannheim, May 11- 21, 2011
After the successful launch of the MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBA program in Shanghai in March of this year, Mannheim Business School is looking forward to welcoming the 31 participants for their first module in Mannheim. The so-called Finance Module will take place from May 11-21.

Due to the highly flexible design of the program, it is possible to start the Executive MBA with each one of its six modules. We therefore operate on a rolling admissions basis and accept applications throughout the entire year. Moreover, the different modules of the EMBA program are also open for individual enrollment, if you wish to participate in selected courses or modules only.

4. Mannheim Master of Accounting & Taxation, 3rd Program Conference Taxation: M&A Transactions and Tax Structuring at a Global Business Software Company
On May 19, 2011, Prof. Dr. Christoph Spengel, Academic Director of the Mannheim Master of Accounting & Taxation, will welcome Ina Schlie, Senior Vice President, Head Global Tax, SAP AG, as keynote speaker for the program’s third Taxation Conference. Schlie, who holds a degree in economics from Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, will discuss the potential for and challenges of tax structuring in the context of M&A transactions, as exemplified by the company for which she has been working since 1997.n 2001, she became Head of Global Tax at SAP AG and since then has been responsible for all strategic aspects of global tax planning and optimization. Schlie is a member of the board of the BITKOM Tax Committee and represents SAP in organizations such as BDI (Federation of German Industries). In addition, she is also an active member of the advisory committee of the annual „Mannheimer Unternehmenssteuertag“ conference.

The event will take place at the MBS Lecture Hall at Mannheim Castle, starting at 6:30 pm, registration required.

5. Mannheimer Unternehmenssteuertag, June 21, 2011
On June 21, 2011, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) and the University of Mannheim open their doors again for the Mannheimer Unternehmenssteuertag. The academic conference addresses international business taxation issues from a practice-oriented viewpoint and offers a mix of informative lectures as well as interactive workshops.
As chairman of the Unternehmenssteuertag advisory board, Prof. Dr. Christoph Spengel from the University of Mannheim has been significantly involved in the conference scheme since its inception. Spengel, who is also Academic Director of the Mannheim Master of Accounting & Taxation (MMAT), is looking forward to welcome among this year's speakers Brigitte Fischer, Head of the Corporate Tax and Customs Department, Freudenberg & Co. KG, and Oliver Nußbaum, Head of the Tax Planning Team and Vice President Central Department Tax and Customs Duties, BASF SE.

Students of the MMAT Taxation Track Class of 2012 have the opportunity to participate in the conference free of charge. 6. MBS Tech Business Club @ Deutsche Bank
Mannheim Business School takes great pride in its students and alumni who without exception are individuals of great dedication and initiative. One of the recently established student-led initiatives at our institution, which we would like to introduce today, is the MBS TechBusiness Club. Led by students of the Mannheim MBA program, the club aims to provide a platform for MBS students, alumni and faculty interested in technology-driven businesses so that they stay connected with the rapidly changing technology in different functional sectors and gain insights from the expertise of fellow members.
Exploring new ideas and opportunities is also what led them to organizing an event at Deutsche Bank on Friday, April 8, 2011, where club members had the chance to discuss and present some of their ideas to Deutsche Bank representatives.
