 Mannheim Business School Alumni e-Bulletin

Dear reader,

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Mannheim Business School, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a joyous and relaxing holiday season and a prosperous 2012!

Looking back on the first year of my term as President of Mannheim Business School, I count myself lucky to be part of an outstanding community of ‘Mannheimers’. I am pleased to say that we have jointly achieved excellent results during the past year. We not only successfully launched an exciting new program, the MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBA, we also renewed our existing
program portfolio, reviewing curricula and introducing new study options to meet the demands of the fast-changing business environment. In addition, it has been particularly gratifying to see the positive development in the area of Executive Education as we have been able to expand our portfolio of both our Company Programs and our Open Courses.

I would like to thank all our business and academic partners as well as our students and alumni for making this possible and I hope you will continue with us on our journey. I am confident that together we will continue to successfully meet the challenges ahead.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Jens Wüstemann
President Mannheim Business School

1. Return, Remember, Reconnect: Annual MBS Alumni Homecoming 2011
On November 26, 2011, Mannheim Castle once again opened its doors to host our signature alumni event, the Annual MBS Alumni Homecoming. A record of over 260 alumni, guests, faculty members and staff attended the event, reconnecting and celebrating the Mannheim spirit until late in the night.

As keynote speaker of the evening, Professor Dr. Jens Wüstemann, President of Mannheim Business School, welcomed Antonio Schnieder, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Capgemini Deutschland GmbH, President of the Association of German Management Consultants (BDU), whose candid speech on “Economic development and consequences for consulting” was highly topical and sparked a lively question & answer session.

Professor Wüstemann also announced the recipients of the newly launched MBS Alumni Commitment Award, introduced this year to formally recognize the great contribution Mannheimers make towards the advancement of the school and the MBS Network.

To honor their tireless commitment in building and growing the Swiss Alumni Chapter, the inaugural award went to Sandra Trittin, Mannheim MBA Class 2009, and Boris Frenzel, ESSEC & MANNHEIM Modular EMBA Class 2011.

3. Survey: Executive Education is a Significant Market of the Future
The demand for Executive Education is high – at all hierarchal levels and across all industries. This is the result of a survey conducted by the University of Mannheim/Mannheim Business School. Altogether, more than 1,000 individuals from more than 50 countries – mainly from Germany and France – participated in this survey. Accordingly, 92,5 % of the respondents consider participating in an Executive Education program as an option, one third of them has concrete plans to do so. The demand is particularly high among the group of young professionals.

The survey also revealed that the main motivation for the decision is the objective to improve one’s leadership skills. In addition, the study has demonstrated that there is a high demand for courses that are specifically designed to prepare women for leadership positions.

First results of the survey can be viewed here (in German). The complete documentation will be published in February 2012.

1. MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBA: Upcoming Module in Mannheim
The next module of the MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBA will take place in Mannheim from January 8 - 18, 2012. The focus of the so-called Strategy Module will be on Strategic Management, Industry & Competition Analysis and Entrepreneurship.
