On November 22, 2008 Mannheim Castle opened its doors to host the very first Annual MBS Alumni Homecoming: More than 180 alumni, soon to become alumni, friends and guests, MBS faculty and staff came together to enjoy an evening of thought-provoking speeches, excellent entertainment – and to reconnect with their alma mater and to rekindle the Mannheim spirit, thus bearing witness to the strength and the continuous growth of the Mannheim Alumni network.
The keynote speech by Dr. Jürgen Heraeus, Chairman of Heraeus Holding GmbH and President of the UNICEF Germany, on the topic of "Key issues and challenges facing a family-owned business" inspired a lively question & answer session, expertly moderated by Professor Dr. Sabine Kuester, Academic Director of the Mannheim MBA program.
The dinner reception that followed provided ample opportunity to reconnect with former class mates and teachers and to get to know fellow alumni from other classes and years. Though the event lasted well past midnight, for many it constituted only the prelude to further and less formal celebration of the Mannheim spirit.
Although fostering a strong and lively alumni network through regular alumni meetings and other social events has been a pivotal element of the alumni relations management of Mannheim Business School since its inception, the 1st Annual MBS Alumni Homecoming has set new standards, raising both excitement and expectations for other MBS events to come – particularly for the 2nd Annual MBS Homecoming.
