Roughly halfway through their program, the 42 participants of the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Weekend EMBA Class of 2009 can already claim a major achievement: Since social responsibility is a core element of the educational concept of Mannheim Business School, the class organized a Charity Golf Tournament, with the German Children’s Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary.
Despite the challenging times, the class gained considerable support from a number of companies and the MVV Energiedienstleistungen Charity Golf Cup, which took place on May 29, 2009, at St. Leon-Rot Golf Course, was a great success. Not only did both participating golfers as well as enthusiastic supporters enjoy themselves very much, the class also managed to raise a total of € 50,000 for the German Children’s Cancer Foundation (Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung).
On Saturday, August 29, 2009, class representatives handed over the proceeds to Jens Kort, Director of the German Children’s Cancer Foundation, who had come to Mannheim as part of the annual “Rainbow Tour” – a bicycle tour organized by survivors of pediatric cancer and supported by the German Children’s Cancer Foundation. The money will be used to maintain and improve the “Waldpiraten-Camp”, the first and only holiday camp for children with cancer in the German-speaking region, which is located in the Mannheim area.
