This program focuses on the skills required by managers that work across cultures.

You will learn how to acquire the three keys that are necessary to be successful in cross-cultural business: cognitive key (enables you to master the cultural dimension), behavioral key (enables you to exert a leadership based on cultural differences) and strategic key (enables you to integrate cross-cultural perspectives in global thinking, especially in the context of mergers & acquisitions).

Please note: this course, referred to as an "Open MBA program" is also open to participants of our world-renowned full-time MBA program.
This means that you can expect to share your learning experience with highly ambitious and dedicated young professionals who come from a wide variety of cultural, academic and professional backgrounds.

By combining case studies and simulations as well as field work and research, this intensive 5-day open MBA program aims at preparing participants for work in international teams by increasing their cultural awareness and developing their communication and management skills in diverse cultural environments.

The objectives of this program are:

  • Identification of the cultural differences that lead to misunderstandings and conflicts
  • Analysis of cultural differences through historical, family and educational factors
  • Provision of tools to facilitate cooperation within mixed teams as needed in bi- or multicultural corporations

Management and communication are key topics of the program, but always linked to a cross-cultural situation. A rich international experience is a plus. Curiosity, openness, self-critical thinking are as important as specific knowledge of concepts/tools, since most of them are either part of the recommended pre-reading or introduced during the session.

An alternation of interactive lectures, workshops, case studies and simulations is applied during this program, focusing on cultural models and specific knowledge on different countries as well as various cooperation situations.
Active participation during the program is recommended in order to create an atmosphere of openness and cooperation and thus make individual and collective commitment easier. The aim is not just to transfer cultural knowledge, but also to put things into the right perspective and to capitalize on the international experience of participants. An examination is also part of the program.

Required Reading

Participants will be provided with program material before the start of the program. We strongly recommend reading the material and preparing for the program in order to gain maximum benefit.

Prof. Dr. Jaques Pateau

Jaques Pateau is Professor of Intercultural Communication at the Compiegne University of Technology, France. He is a consultant and expert for German-French Cooperation Management, and conducts intercultural training seminars, team coaching, preparation of managers and teams for expatriation, audits, and studies on intercultural communication in corporations.

He has produced several films and participated in many radio and television programs on the subject of managing Franco-German and international corporations. He founded “Pateau Consultants”, an international consulting firm, in 1990 and is a consultant to, amongst others, Airbus, BASF, Bayer, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom, EADS, Michelin, Philips Network Systems, Renault, Sanofi Aventis, and Sony.
