The aim of this intensive 5-day open MBA program is to introduce the principles, methods and practices of logistics:

  • Critical perspectives of the theory and practice of contemporary logistics activities
  • The relationship of these activities as they relate to the wider context of supply chain management
  • Applications of current subject-specific knowledge provided in several contexts
  • Operations Management of firms in the manufacturing, retail and service sectors, with a particular focus on the global nature of logistics and supply chain management
  • Practical knowledge of logistics and supply chain management

Pre-Requisites:

Links to other subjects such as marketing, finance and operations management will be made during the program. While some subject knowledge of these areas would be useful, there are no specific pre-requisites for this program.

Learning and Teaching Methods

In this program an alternation of different teaching methods will be applied. Interactive lectures provide you with logistics and supply chain management theory and illustrations of its application. The main part of the program consists of practical exercises that utilize selected case study materials. Active participation and preparation before the program will significantly contribute to the programs success.
The program includes an examination.

Required Reading:

Participants will be provided with program material before the start of the program. We strongly recommend reading the material and preparing for the program in order to gain maximum benefit from the program.

Prof. Dr. David B. Grant

David Grant is Professor of Logistics and Director of the Logistics Institute at the University of Hull (United Kingdom). He was previously a Visiting Professor at the University of the Mediterranean, Aix en Provence and Vienna University. Furthermore, he has also taught, amongst others, at the University of Calgary, University of Edinburgh, Birmingham Business School, and Turku School of Economics and Business Administration (Finland).

His areas of expertise include logistics and supply chain customer service and satisfaction, service quality, reverse and closed-loop logistics, logistics in SMEs, and services marketing. Amongst others, he has published papers in the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Logistics and International Journal of Logistics Management, and received the Highly Commended Award 2006 and 2008 from Emerald Group Publishing Limited. David Grant is also an editorial board member of several journals, member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (USA), as well as member of the Logistics Research Network (UK).
