COBRA Summer School on Empirical Tax Research

In July, COBRA hosted its first Summer School on Empirical Tax Research, bringing together PhD students and early-career scholars from around the world for three intensive days at Mannheim Business School. Following an opening keynote by Prof. Christoph Spengel on tax research and policy impact, Katarzyna Bilicka, Shannon Chen, John Gallemore, Barbara Stage, and Marcel Olbert led sessions on empirical strategies, frontier methodological developments, and tax systems as research settings. Alongside lectures, research pitches, and intensive feedback on participants' own projects, social events such as a joint dinner and an excursion to Heidelberg created ample space for exchange and networking – reflecting COBRA's commitment to fostering rigorous, internationally connected tax research.

COBRA Soft Launch

COBRA – the Mannheim Center for Corporate Behavior and Regulation Analysis – marked its official start with a soft launch event on June 9, 2026. Academic Director Marcel Olbert introduced the Center’s vision and early developments, while MBS Dean Joachim Lutz welcomed the initiative. The event brought together faculty, researchers, and the broader community, creating space for exchange and connection at an informal reception afterwards.

AI & Code Clinic for Research and Teaching

In May, COBRA hosted the first edition of its AI and Code Clinic for Research and Teaching, two workshops designed for faculty and researchers interested in the use of AI in empirical research. Across two sessions, participants explored how AI agents such as Claude Code can support the research process, discussed practical applications and common pitfalls, and were introduced to new data infrastructure for the research community. The series offered a hands-on forum for learning, exchange, and experimentation, reflecting COBRA’s commitment to advancing innovative and methodologically rigorous research.
